What Happened?

Stonegate Meadows is a residential apartment community in Kansas City, Missouri that has been managed over time by Young Management Corporation, Elite Management, Eagle Point Management, Yarco Company, and related entities. Four separate class action lawsuits were filed alleging the property was not maintained in habitable condition — with claims that tenants lived in unsafe, unsanitary, and unhealthy conditions due to management failures.

The four cases cover different management periods and defendants: Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows Apartments LLC ($2 million fund, Dec. 2019–May 2026); Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows L.P. and Eagle Point Management ($950,000, April 2018–Nov. 2019); Johnson v. Yarco Company, Inc. ($330,000, Sept. 2020–April 2021); and Johnson v. Young Management Corporation ($700,000, Nov. 2019–Aug. 2020). All defendants denied the allegations but agreed to settle.

Tenants who lived at Stonegate Meadows during any overlapping class period may qualify for one or more partial rent refund payments. Checks are mailed automatically to eligible class members who do not opt out — no claim form is required.

How Much Will I Actually Get?

Payment amounts depend on how long you resided at Stonegate Meadows during each class period and which of the four settlements you qualify for. A tenant who overlaps multiple class periods could receive up to four separate payments. Amounts are pro rata partial rent refunds from each fund after attorneys' fees and costs. Opt-out/objection deadline is July 13, 2026; fairness hearing is August 21, 2026.
