What Happened?

On or about August 31, 2025, a third party unlawfully accessed specific University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center servers that support epidemiology research. Impacted files may have included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and research-related private information. The Notice says the affected data was in research files, not patient medical records.

The case is In re University of Hawai‘i Data Breach Litigation, Civil No. 1CCV-26-0000280, in the First Judicial Circuit Court for the State of Hawai‘i. The University of Hawai‘i denies wrongdoing.

The claim deadline is November 2, 2026. Opt-out and objection deadlines are October 19, 2026. A Final Approval Hearing is scheduled for November 4, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Honolulu.
