$2.5B Amazon Prime FTC Class Action Settlement
Amazon has agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over allegations that Prime enrollment and cancellation processes were confusing or misleading. If you received a notice from Amazon and qualify, you may be entitled to up to $51 — paid via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check.
Do I Qualify?
You may be eligible if:
- You received a notice by email or postcard from Amazon — this is required to participate in the claims process
- You are a U.S. customer who signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025 through confusing or misleading enrollment paths, or
- You tried to cancel Prime but could not complete the cancellation process
- You file within 180 days from the date on your individual notice
No proof is required. You only need to provide your name and email to file a claim — no receipts or purchase records needed. Payments of up to $51 per person are sent via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check.
Already got a refund? Those who already received automatic refunds from Amazon in November or December 2025 do not need to file a claim.
File your claim on the official Amazon Prime subscription membership settlement website.
File Your Claim →What Happened?
In 2023, the Federal Trade Commission sued Amazon for using manipulative design patterns — known as "dark patterns" — to trick consumers into signing up for Amazon Prime without their knowledge or consent. Amazon made it extremely easy to accidentally enroll in Prime during checkout while hiding the subscription cost. Canceling Prime was deliberately made difficult, requiring users to navigate through multiple confusing screens.
The FTC also alleged that Amazon knowingly enrolled children in Prime using their parents' accounts without authorization. Amazon agreed to pay $25 million in civil penalties to the FTC and an additional $2.5 billion to settle the class action lawsuit brought by affected consumers.
This is one of the largest FTC settlements in history and one of the few cases where a company was penalized specifically for making it too hard to cancel a subscription.
How Much Will I Actually Get?
Eligible claimants can receive up to $51 per person, paid via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check. The actual amount depends on how many people file valid claims — the more people who file, the smaller each individual payment. Given the massive publicity around this settlement, expect payments toward the lower end of the range. Payments are expected to be distributed within 90 days of the July 27, 2026 deadline.
