In May 2024, unauthorized actors accessed Central Valley Meat Co., Inc. computer systems in a cyberattack that potentially exposed files containing names and Social Security numbers of current and former employees. Central Valley sent breach notification letters to affected individuals around December 30, 2024.
The lawsuit is Daniel Fernandez v. Central Valley Meat Co, Inc., Case No. 25CU0022 (consolidated with Case Nos. 25CU0023 and 25CU0036), pending in the Superior Court of Kings County, California. Plaintiffs allege Central Valley failed to adequately protect employee private information. Central Valley denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle.
The settlement provides extraordinary expense reimbursement up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses between May 23, 2024 and September 28, 2026, a $75 California statutory payment for qualifying residents, and two years of CyEx Identity Defense Complete monitoring for all class members.
Opt-out and objection deadlines are August 7, 2026. The Final Approval Hearing is August 28, 2026. Payments will be issued after court approval and resolution of any appeals, generally within 45 days of the effective date or 30 days after claim approval, whichever is later.

How Much Will I Actually Get?
Class members may claim up to $5,000 for documented extraordinary out-of-pocket losses incurred between May 23, 2024 and September 28, 2026, including identity theft or fraud losses, credit report and monitoring fees, ID replacement costs, and up to two hours of lost time at $25 per hour (maximum $50, included within the $5,000 cap). California residents may also claim a separate $75 statutory cash payment in addition to other benefits, with a sworn attestation of California residency at the time of the Data Incident. All class members may enroll in two years of CyEx Identity Defense Complete monitoring with $1 million identity theft insurance. You choose which cash benefit tiers apply to your situation; documentation is required only for the extraordinary expense reimbursement tier.
