What Happened?

In April 2024, an unauthorized user gained access to Compex Legal Services systems in a cyber incident that may have exposed personally identifiable information and protected health information. Compex — a nationwide litigation-support and medical-record retrieval company — began mailing and publishing notice to affected individuals in August 2024.

The lawsuit is Shahbaz, et al. v. Compex Legal Services, Inc., pending in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Plaintiffs alleged Compex failed to adequately protect private information in its care. Compex denies wrongdoing; the parties settled to end the litigation.

Under the $872,500 settlement, class members who file valid claims may receive up to $5,000 for documented losses reasonably traceable to the incident, plus a flat cash payment expected to be $100–$200 (subject to pro rata adjustment).

Claims are due August 19, 2026. The Final Approval Hearing is August 31, 2026. Payments issue after final approval and resolution of any appeals.
