What Happened?

On May 24, 2025, Naper Grove Vision Care, P.C. detected a targeted cyberattack on its computer systems. Reporting describes a ransomware incident attributed to the Interlock group. Certain files containing private information belonging to about 20,093 current and former patients were accessed. Exposed data may have included names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, patient numbers, health insurance numbers, explanation of benefits documentation, and medical condition or treatment information.

The lawsuit is In re Naper Grove Data Breach Litigation, Case No. 2025-LA-000922, pending in the Circuit Court of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit, DuPage County, Illinois. Plaintiffs allege Naper Grove failed to adequately protect patient data. Naper Grove denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle.

The settlement offers Cash Payment A (documented losses up to $1,000) or Cash Payment B (pro rata from a $50,000 alternate-cash Settlement Fund), plus one year of CyEx Medical Shield Complete. The $50,000 fund pays Payment B only — it is not the documented loss cap.

Claim, opt-out, and objection deadlines are September 18, 2026. The Final Approval Hearing is October 20, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Benefits distribute after final approval and resolution of any appeals.

How Much Will I Actually Get?

Class members must choose Cash Payment A or Cash Payment B, and may separately claim credit monitoring. Cash Payment A: up to $1,000 for documented unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses from fraud or identity theft fairly traceable to the breach, incurred May 24, 2025–September 18, 2026 — documentation required. Cash Payment B: a pro rata alternate cash payment from a $50,000 Settlement Fund established specifically for Payment B claims, with no documentation required. The $50,000 figure is the alternate-cash-tier pool — not the documented loss budget. All class members may enroll in one year of CyEx Medical Shield Complete monitoring with $1 million medical identity theft insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for the Naper Grove Vision Care data breach settlement?
You may qualify if your private information may have been impacted by the May 2025 Naper Grove Vision Care, P.C. Data Incident, including current and former patients who received notice. About 20,093 people were affected after a ransomware attack detected May 24, 2025. Exposed data may include names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, patient numbers, health insurance numbers, EOB documentation, and medical condition or treatment information.
How much can I get from the Naper Grove settlement?
You must choose one cash path. Cash Payment A reimburses documented unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses from fraud or identity theft up to $1,000 for losses between May 24, 2025 and September 18, 2026. Cash Payment B is an alternate pro rata cash payment from a separate $50,000 Settlement Fund with no documentation required. All class members may also enroll in one year of CyEx Medical Shield Complete monitoring.
Is the $50,000 the full settlement or only one benefit tier?
The $50,000 Settlement Fund pays only Cash Payment B (alternate cash) claims on a pro rata basis. Documented-loss reimbursement under Cash Payment A is a separate per-claimant benefit capped at $1,000 and is not paid from that $50,000 pool. Do not treat $50,000 and $1,000 as the same figure.
