What Happened?

Plaintiffs alleged Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC violated federal antitrust law under the Sherman Act and Clayton Act by banning third-party retailers from selling PlayStation digital game vouchers starting April 1, 2019.

The lawsuit claims Sony forced all digital purchases through the PlayStation Store and allegedly inflated prices across the market.

Case caption: Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, Civil Action No. 21-cv-03361-AMO, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

The settlement received preliminary court approval on April 8, 2026, after two earlier settlement versions were rejected by the court.

Sony denies any wrongdoing. The Final Approval Hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026.
