What Happened?
AT&T suffered a massive data breach affecting approximately 73 million current and former customers. The stolen data — including Social Security numbers, account numbers, passcodes, and contact information — was found on the dark web in March 2024. AT&T initially denied the data was theirs before eventually confirming the breach affected records going back to 2019.
This breach was particularly damaging because AT&T had denied for years that the data belonged to them, leaving millions of customers unaware their information had been exposed. AT&T reset passcodes for all affected current customers and offered one year of free credit monitoring.
