$31.5M Flagstar Bank Data Breach Class Action Settlement
Flagstar Bank has agreed to pay $31.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit over data breaches that occurred in January and December 2021. If your personal information was compromised, you may be entitled to cash payments — including up to $25,000 for documented losses and an estimated $60 residual payment for all valid claimants.
Do I Qualify?
You may be eligible if:
- Your personal information was compromised in the Flagstar Bank data breaches in January or December 2021
- You are a consumer who received notice or believe your data was affected
- California residents may qualify for an additional $100 payment on top of other benefits
- You submit a valid claim form with required documentation by August 11, 2026

Flagstar Bank suffered two separate cyberattacks in January 2021 and December 2021, exposing the personal information of approximately 2.19 million customers. The breaches exposed Social Security numbers, financial account information, and other sensitive personal data. Flagstar was slow to notify affected customers and initially downplayed the scope of the breach.
The December 2021 breach was particularly notable because it exploited the same Accellion file transfer software vulnerability that affected dozens of other major companies simultaneously. Flagstar agreed to pay $31.5 million to settle the combined class action lawsuits.
How Much Will I Actually Get?
The settlement offers three tiers of compensation. First, you can claim up to $25,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses caused by the breach. Second, all eligible class members can claim an estimated $60 residual cash payment with no documentation required. Third, all class members receive three years of free three-bureau credit monitoring. The $60 cash payment requires no proof and is available to all 2.19 million affected customers. Deadline is August 11, 2026.
