The Pennsylvania State Education Association — the largest public school employee union in Pennsylvania — suffered a data breach on July 6, 2024 that exposed the personal information of current and former members. The breach compromised names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, driver's license numbers, and other sensitive personal data of tens of thousands of education professionals.
The PSEA was criticized for its delayed response and notification process, leaving members unaware of the breach for an extended period. The organization agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle the class action.
How Much Will I Actually Get?
The settlement offers two tiers. If you have no documented losses, you can claim a flat $50 cash payment with no proof required. If you have documented out-of-pocket expenses caused by the breach — such as costs for credit monitoring, identity theft recovery, or fraud-related losses — you can claim up to $5,000. All claimants also receive two years of free credit monitoring. Deadline is July 6, 2026.
